Happy Chinese New Year!
we can light it up up up

It is the Year of the Rooster!

Merry Christmas!
we can light it up up up

Isaiah 9:6 NIV: "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

On Wednesdays, we wear pink. Happy belated Mean Girls day!
gonna let it burn, fire
October 3rd was Mean Girls Day. Mean Girls is one of my favorite movies, and with its popularity, one can see why. The lines are so funny in a memorable way, but at the same time the movie addresses serious issues. It looks at the way girls in school can be mean to each other; it was based off of a self-help book by Roselind Wiseman. The film has a positive message at the end, which says that tearing someone else down is not going to make you happier.

Also, Tina Fey is brilliant.

[Music of the Day] Voltaj - Ultima Secunda
white flowers

I am a fan of the Romanian band Voltaj, and this is their song, "Ultima Secunda". Title means "Last Second", and it's a cover of an Indonesian song. See the band in the background at 0:17 playing the song. Beautiful video and song, with the parallel panels. I really like Calin Goia's voice--he has a distinctive tenor sound with a mix of rock grit and light sweetness. I would recognize it anywhere. And with this video, you don't need to understand Romanian to get an idea of what it's about.

Romanian lyrics:

Translation through Google Translate (because they don't have an English translation up on that site yet):
Last Secunda
And if the night would you want to hide,
Eyes closed, I would find.
And if morning would be nowhere
I want to know, I'd be.
And if autumn will bring rain,
And if winter will white
I know that you would be.
Up-n last second of the last day,
Until the sun will climb to know,
Are your ladder
So I want to tell you that you are
My half, a world I'd fight
My half, to be mine.
To be mine.
And if tears will bathe your eyes,
The joy they will be
I know you'll be.
Mine (2X)
You'll always be mine.

Here is the acoustic piano version:

Oh Yeah
gonna let it burn, fire
One of the acts on AGT that I'm voting for is The Professional Regurgitator. Yeah, gross, but the curiosity factor is just too strong! I'm always wanting to see what he does next. He keeps things entertaining each time. He swallows all kinds of things that SHOULD NOT BE SWALLOWED (like coins and thumbtacks) and then burps them back out, good as new. Like, what he does is not supposed to be possible, but he somehow makes it happen. I'd be happy if he wins.

Eurovision 2015
Plumb, in the water I remain
I'm excited to watch this year's Eurovision final. I have yet to actually watch the contest livestreamed. I had to miss the semifinals because I had stuff to do. But hopefully I can use the final show on Saturday as a reward if I work enough before then.

I haven't even heard all the entries yet, but the Romanian entry caught my attention. I've been a fan of Voltaj for some time, thanks to a Hetalia fanvideo by user SkadiPirate, which featured character Romania, and the band's song MSD2 (Mai Sus De Locul 2). Voltaj's Eurovision entry is called De la capăt / All Over Again. It's one of the recent songs that have given me the feels.

I will write more about this soon, when I have more time...just wanted to give a mini update on what I've been up to. I had a phone interview on Tuesday, so I'm awaiting their final decision. This has also refreshed my resolve to master my interview questions, now that I have a more concrete list. I need to know them front and back, the way a singer needs to know their repertoire for the big performance. I also will be doing a mock tutor session tomorrow for an online tutoring site, where I tutor the evaluator, who pretends to be a student in need of help. *rubs hands*

Tedious and long job applications
gonna let it burn, fire
I am applying to a company which uses Taleo. And as I've already become very familiar with, it's a HUGE hassle, and a waste of time. Google tells me that I'm not the only one who thinks Taleo sucks. I'm frustrated and laughing at once. What is the point in attaching files if you end up having to fill out/correct everything by hand anyway?! Some companies using Taleo require you to fill out more stuff than others. And for this particular company I'm applying to atm, the Company Questionnaire section alone is 7 PAGES LONG. That's right. 7. Pages. Long. Add all the other sections, and you get something eeeeven longer.

It's the web equivalent of hauling a huge, heavy weight across the ground for a good duration of time. Ugh...ow.

Because you know I got a sinus ache in my face, nose trouble
gonna let it burn, fire
Ugh, I’m sick again. Aching, sore throat, congestion, sneezing. And the last time I was sick was only in December/January. Bleh. Fitting title is fitting. It’s from the lyrics of the Key of Awesome’s parody of Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass”, which I’ve been listening to recently haha. Videoshare time!

This has everything I like in a parody.

It is COOOLLLLD! And an update.
cold, cool, Frozone
Where I am, we're experiencing really cold temperatures, and a TON of snow. Much of the US, in fact. I went out today to get the mail and throw some things out and I had to fight against the snow and wind blowing in my way. As far as I remember, we got way more snow this year than last year.

I'm somewhere in the blue-purple area on this map.

I wouldn't mind being in Death Valley now. I really would like to visit that place. They say it's best to visit it in the winter.

In addition, my journal is long overdue for an update. I hope I can revamp this journal. It can be hard to set aside time to sit down and write something substantial, and then check it all to make sure the post is ready to be published. Plus my mind flutters from one thing to the next. I've also gotten a bit shy about posting things online. Sometimes you post something that seemed cool at the time, and then look back on it and think, "Gee, I wonder what they think of me." Time and distance really do change/add to perspective. I'm not entirely the same person I was as when I posted more regularly on LJ (here and in communities). I am very glad though, for life's learning lesson.

Entries I plan to post soon (in no particular order):
- A reflection on the past 2 years
- Grammys
- Great music finds
- Singing
- General life aspirations
- Vocal classifications of fictional characters, if they were singers or characters in a musical
- Stuff related to Frozen

On a celebratory note, it was Lunar New Year today! I wore red. :D Happy Lunar New Year! Have a compilation of goats.

"Forever Alone" - Parody of One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful"
gonna let it burn, fire
Lately, I've been listening to "What Makes You Beautiful" repeatedly (both the original and Cimorelli's version). Then I saw this parody of the song, and decided to make a parody of my own (also with the word "alone" in the title). The lyrics are based on the feelings of the Forever Alone Guy (http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/forever-alone). This is just a joke; I don't actually believe these lyrics; I'm just having fun with a meme.

These are the lyrics I have so far:
(underlines are on emphasized syllables)
